The Different Torino Models of The Series

Most Torinos built were common four-door sedans or hardtops, but Ford also turned the Torino into a powerful muscle car. The two door hardtop Torino was fitted with a 7 liter 428 cubic inch V-8 engine, plus an even more powerful 429 cubic inch Cobra-Jet engine. The Torino muscle cars were introduced into NASCAR racing competitions and were quite successful.

The 1968 Torino GT two-door hardtop and convertible was offered with a 302 cubic inch V-8 engine as standard. In 1969 the Torino 2 -door hardtop and 2-door SportsRoof fastback model was offered, which were called the Cobra in the NASCAR circuit.Is this new to you? Catch up here The all-new 1970 Torino was lower and wider, with a more prominent long-hood short-deck design. The GT model came with bucket seats and non-functional hood scoop plus GT stripes.

In 1972 the Gran Torino arrived, with a new enclosed grill and sharper fender lines. The 351 cubic inch V8 became the high performance engine, replacing the 429 Cobra-Jet engine. Federal bumpers were added in 1973-74, making the cars longer and heavier. The 1975-76 Gran Torino Sport was used in the popular Starsky and Hutch TV series, and 1,000 replicas of the TV car were made before Torino production stopped.
